About Me

We have had Sam for a week now and got him from breed rescue. He lived with an elderly couple who became ill so could no longer cope with him. He is very overweight so is on a diet and we are gently breaking him in to an exercise regime as he was not used to much exercise. He has a walk round the field once a day and it is heartbreaking as he really wants to play with other dogs but he just can't manage it as he is so overweight. He also has 2 short walks around the block. In just a week we can really see the difference in his recovery time, he doesn't pant as long now. It's going to be a long slog to get him to his target weight, but we can't wait to have a young, fit and healthy dog that can come out on long walks with us. OCT 2007 Sam is so much better now he has lost some weight. He loves his walks and his recall is getting better so we can let him off. He has 2 walks a day during the week then at weekends we go for 2 hour walks along the beach or sand dunes. I've even lost a few pounds too!! JANUARY 2008 Took Sam for his final weigh in as we have increased his food as he was looking a bit on the skinny side! He is a very large Goldie and the vet and the nurses all say he looks fine as he is at this weight. So in all it has taken 6 months to lose 10kg. We are so pleased with the result, Sam is now the lively young dog he should be.

Highs of Dieting

  • Luckily Sam is the most unenthusiastic dog I have ever met when it is feeding time! He does not beg for food either so I can't see how he got this overweight!
  • His recall is not the best, so letting him off when out on a walk is a no at the moment. He really wants to play with other dogs too so it's a shame.
  • He refuses to eat the light variety of the food he is on, so is on a limited amount of the full fat stuff!
