Hi Rae
I know you sent this a while ago, but i've just joined this site and think i may be able to help.
Socks may be doing his business elsewhere for many reasons. He feels his litter try isn't clean enough, it may some scents soaked in, either from him or Daisy.
Or it may because your other cat is using it too and either he doesn't like the other cats scent, or Daisy is doing her business before Socks gets chance etc.
I know i'm babbling now but another reason may be if Daisy has become more dominant over Socks. I know someone who had 2 cats, and one day walked into an "abandoned" bedroom they didn't use, to find one of the cats had been using the mattress as a litter tray because the other cat wouldn't let them use the real litter tray.
I think you should get Socks his own litter try, and maybe keep the litter trays away from each other. If theres room it may be a good idea to keep Socks litter tray in the bathroom. Then always keep a little bit of water in the sink and bath with the plug in, that should definately stop Socks using them, and if theres a nice clean litter tray right next to where he normally goes, he should jump right on!
Let meknow if i've helped
Nicola
